Holding spray! This must have tool is a great way to finish a style and tame those strays! It not only offers fairly firm (yet flexible and workable) control, it is a great way to hold that shape and is excellent for use with curling tongs, flat irons and everything in between! Free cuts for wellness day:
In the month of April, Fish Stylists Mischa and Jamie headed down to the Salvation Army to donate free haircuts to the less fortunate. Along with Jamie and Mischa’s styling talents, other companies donated services such as manicures, pedicures and massages. Also included in the day’s events were nutritionists giving speeches on nutrition and information booths with pamphlets on mental illness and other health topics.The day was a huge success for both the residents of the Salvation Army, and those there to donate their talents.

Babes go bare for cancer:
Senior Stylist Jamie, donated his time (and head shaving skills) for a great cause that took place last month. The “Babes go bare for cancer” idea was created by Trish Caddy, who was able to convince twelve strangers to pose naked for an all proceeds to the cancer foundation calendar. Last month eleven of those nude models took part in shaving their heads at Mayfair shopping centre, in the hopes of adding to the $16,000 they previously raised from the calendar sales. In the end, the head shave and silent auction raised about $25,000! Trish said “Twenty more people that we weren’t expecting, also offered to have their heads shaved in front of the audience of 200 people, we were all really excited!” Thanks to everyone that took part in this event and to Jamie for always being one of the first to donate his time to help out the community!

Caitlin’s N.E. launch Party:
Recently back from Bumble and Bumble’s network educator course in New York City, we celebrated Caitlin’s new position with a launch party on April 12th. The night started off with Caitlin speaking to the staff about what she learned at the N.E. course and how she will be applying her new skills at Fish Hair Salon. After some cheering and congratulating; Caitlin’s speech was followed by a fun (and silly) team building game, which had us all laughing out loud. Congratulations Caitlin, we are so proud of you!

Photoshoots!
The most recent Fish Hair Salon photoshoots took place in a variety of locations with a variety of different hairstyles. The first shoot which featured hair by Robyn and makeup by Seungmin, took place at the 'Esquimalt Rail yards' across the harbor from downtown Victoria. The hair was done in a simple swept back ponytail style updo; the makeup, soft and natural. Robyn’s photoshoot was followed by stylist Matt, who featured a classic look with soft ringlets and Smokey eyes – and Renee, who took the models deep into the forest for a good vs. evil snow white themed shoot. Renee created soft blonde curls with blunt bangs for her “good” and large backcombed updo for her “evil”. Makeup for Renee’s photoshoot was done by Jenna. All photography fot these shoots was provided by salon photographer, Keira.

Short hairstyles class with Rachel:
On Monday April 26th, the junior Stylists of Fish hair salon were walked through a class based on shorter hairstyles. Rachel taught the basic techniques of short ladies cuts, such as texturing and framing around the face. Victoria Day:
On May 24th Fish Hair Salon will be closed to celebrate our wonderful little city. We apologize for any inconvenience but strongly encourage everyone to enjoy the day’s downtown festivities, such as the Douglas street parade (complete with marching bands, floats and clowns!) Fun for the whole family!

Ashleigh’s back!
After a terrible spill on the ski hill, one of our junior Stylists, Ashleigh is able to walk again and will be ready to take clients starting the first week of May! Welcome back Ashleigh, we’ve missed you!

Color 1:
On June 2nd-4th Sam, Teneel and Caitlin will be taking part in the color 1 course at Bumble and Bumble University in New York City. During this advanced two day course, students will be immersed in the fundamentals of Bb. Color theory and will learn to develop an eye to make tasteful choices for any individual. They will engage in daily hands on sessions with multiple models and will use a color theory similar to makeup artistry. We look forward to welcoming these three Stylists back after their big apple adventure and applying their new found skills in salon.

Still waiting on baby.....
Receptionist Laura and her partner Billy are expecting their first child (a baby girl!) any day now and we are all patiently waiting for our new little fishy to arrive! All of our love to both Laura and Billy!
